Medical and Resident Paper Prizes

Medical Student/Resident Research Paper Prizes
Sponsored through the generosity of Olympus (formerly GYRUS ACMI ENT DIVISION)

Resident Research Prizes: First ($2,000), second ($1,500), and third ($1,000) place are available in the Scientific Program for both basic and clinical science through the generosity of Olympus (formerly GYRUS ACMI ENT Division). All manuscripts submitted for this competition must:

  • have a resident as senior author
  • must describe work that has not been placed under active consideration for publication other than in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

Medical Student Research Prize: A single award of $1,000 is available in the Scientific Program. The conditions and instructions for this competition are the same as those for the Resident Research Awards with the exception that the senior author of a submitted manuscript must have been a medical student at the time the research was conducted.

All award winning manuscripts will be automatically accepted as an oral or poster presentations at the Scientific Program and must be submitted to the journal of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery for further review and consideration for publication; alternatively, manuscripts may be submitted to the journal of the Association for Research in Otolaryngology.

All award winners are expected to attend the Opening Ceremony, Neel Lecture and the Research Awards Ceremony at the AAO-HNS/F Annual Meeting & OTO Expo in Boston, MA, September 26-29, 2010 to receive their awards.

SUBMISSION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

(1)     Abstract submitted to the 2010 AAO-HNS Annual Meeting

(2)     Manuscript officially submitted to Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery

Deadline:     March 8, 2010

HOW TO APPLY:

STEP 1: SUBMIT YOUR ABSTRACT

Abstract Guidelines: Applicants should submit a structured abstract of up to 150 words with the headings: Objective, Study Design, Subjects and Methods, Results, and Conclusion.  If awarded the prize, the abstract will appear  in the Research Awards Ceremony booklet that will be handed out at the AAO-HNS/F Annual Meeting  & OTO Expo in Boston, MA, September 26-29, 2010. 

Submitting an abstract:

Visit the Academy's website at www.entnet.org/annual_meeting for complete rules and guidelines.  The  submission site will be open in early February and close on March 8, 2010.

STEP 2: SUBMIT YOUR MANUSCRIPT

Manuscipt Guidelines:

Follow Journal guidelines. Original Research submissions should have no more than 3,000 words, 10 figures and tables, and 20 references.  Access author guidelines.

Submitting the manuscript can take time, so start early.  Your co-authors will need to complete disclosure forms and your manuscript will need to be reviewed by AAO-HNS staff for completeness and proper formatting before it is accepted for submission.

STEP 3: SUBMIT ABSTRACT ID # AND MANUSCRIPT ID #

Submitting a manuscript for prizes: Residents or medical students interested in applying for a basic or clinical science research paper prize, should send the following items to Stephanie L. Jones, Assistant Director, Research and Quality sljones@entnet.org.  

(1)      Are you a medical student or resident?

 

(2)      Are you applying for a basic or clinical science prize?

 

(3)      AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting Abstract ID# (assigned at the point of submission)

 

(4)      Journal ID# (assigned when the manuscript is assigned to an editor, after editorial office review).

 

(5)      Electronic copy of your manuscript (.pdf)
